Well, so far I've had no luck in finding a job. In fact, I'm almost thinking I'm bound to work as an intern just for the ability to get my foot in the door. If that happens, oh well. I'll just have to work another or two side jobs in order to get my own place. In the meantime, I'll still be busy looking for jobs. I might have to start getting some hints from our newly employed friend, Tasha! She had great innovation to go out and find something and she ended up getting something she wanted. I know she worked hard because everytime I got the chance to talk to her she was just getting ready to run to another job interview. I am scared to get to that level...which is part of the reason I've been half looking for a job and half just enjoying life and travelling.
Speaking of travelling, I've just returned from Seattle where I had a great time with Paul as we celebrated his birthday. I hope he had as great a time as I did--even if he did have to work. While he was busy earning money I was busy making a portfolio for myself. Great fun. Let me tell you. I learned that for what I want to go into for a career spending time working on a portfolio is of the greatest benefit for myself. So here I work hard and get frustrated as I can't choose what to put in my portfolio because NOTHING I've written is really finished and it's just a lot of hard work. Oh well, though. I'll work hard, still. Following Tasha's grand example and make things work out for me. That's about all that has happened to me in the past week.

I hear looking for a job takes a bit of time. That's what I, erm, hear anyway. Never despair! You will find something. My advice is to find a LDS Employment Resource Service Center place. There might be one in Seattle; talk to your local bishop. Also, figure out where the places that you want to work are. Find their websites and watch them like a hawk. And, most importantly, don't give up! I also found that intense prayer works. Do all that you can and ask the Lord to make up for what you can't do. It's what he does.
I've been looking in the Sunday paper (a good practice, you can often find copies of these at a local library) here, in Utah, for editing jobs for you (editing comes right before education in the alphabet and are therefore listed right close in the paper). I did actually find something, but I'm not sure if it's something you'd particularly enjoy. Here's what the listing said:
"Responsibilities include editing newsletters, school curriculum, forms, manuals, flyers, etc. Qualified applicants must have solid writing, editing, and proofreading skills; be proficient with Microsoft Office and desktop publishing applications (QuarkXPress); and have a bachelor’s degree in English or a related field."
If you can't tell, it's for a school, a private school. One of those ever-so-popular charter schools. It's something to maybe consider. Email me if you'd like more info.
I'm glad you had fun with Paul. Was there cake? I hope so. And ice cream. Those are the things that make birthdays. Balloons help, but are not necessary. As are silly, pointed hats.
Good luck with the portfolio, you can do it and it will be fantastic. Erica and I are here if you ever need suggestions. Oh, and another piece of advice, make sure you have several interview outfits in case you have to go to a second interview or so you can wear something professional to drop off an application and such. My mom says navy blue is the color to wear. Somehow it shouts professional. So I got myself a pair of grey pants and a blue sweater as I'm not the type to wear a full-on suit. (You know, I always spell grey/gray the British way first without thinking what I'm doing.) Also, wear your hair back. That says professional too.
I think that's all I have. Good luck. Keep us posted. Have fun in Seattle.
I wish I could leave you really neat advice like Tasha, but...I think what she said is gold. Or, well, not really gold, because that would be weird, but valuable information. I can't say much as I'm not actually looking for a job yet...but yeah. Watch the papers like a hawk. And never be afraid to do an interview. Fake confidence does wonders. I know that's what I use with my classes... So long as you look like you think you're qualified and act like it, you'll do well on the interviews.
I wish my comments really were gold. That would be so cool! I could be on TV or something and gold would just spew from my mouth. Take that King Midas! Booh-yah! If I knew how, I would actually repost all of that advice I gave but colored gold. And Erica's right about fake confidence. Of course, you can't get overly cocky either. And try not to bumble your words like I tend to. Anyway . . . Hope you're having a lovely time of things. Oh! Did you get to go shopping for professional attire? I'll be going to Sandy on Wednesday for an eye doctor appointment if you want to meet up or something. Anyway, you know how to contact me if you do.
